HorseAdds Balance is a balanced grain-free balancer, very low in sugar and starch (2.8% and 2.7%). It contains all the vitamins, minerals and trace elements your horse needs in a concentrated and palatable pellet. HorseAdds Balance is formulated based on recent forage analyses performed by Eurofins.
"Starchy feeds can lead to major changes in gut flora resulting in digestive problems"
For best absorption, all trace elements in HorseAdds Balance are organically bound and contain RRR-alphatocopheryl acetate; the most stable natural form of vitamin E. To ensure that your horse gets enough essential amino acids, we have chosen highly absorbable sources of protein in the pellet composition and the premix contains the essential amino acids Lysine, Methionine and Threonine. These are important for maintaining healthy muscles. To support healthy intestinal flora, our HorseAdds Balance contains plenty of healthy, easily digestible fiber, all B vitamins and yeast.
Sufficient fiber is essential for horses. They are digested in the large intestine by bacteria, also called fermentation. This creates volatile fatty acids which are used as an important source of energy. Fiber is slowly digestible and thus slowly released energy sources. However, not all fibers are easily digestible for horses.
A good way to compare fiber quality in horse feeds is to look at the ratio of Lignin to NDF in the components of the pellet. NDF stands for Neutral Detergent Fibre, it represents total cell walls, or fibers such as lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose. This can be used to determine the ratio of cell walls to cell content. Lignin is also called wood dust and is not digestible by horses. The more lignin a raw material contains, the less digestible it is.
Soy hulls are a highly digestible and rapidly fermentable source of fiber, they are not called "super fibers" for nothing. Soy hulls have a lignin:NDF ratio of +/- 3.7% and are rich in pectin fibers, these stimulate the growth of healthy intestinal bacteria (gut flora) and accelerate their fermentation.
Lucerne is a high-protein product; it contains about 16% crude protein, but is low in sugars. The protein in alfalfa is high quality because it contains all the essential amino acids.
The benefits of using flaxseed in horse feed have been known for many years. In particular, the value of flaxseed lies in its omega fatty acid profile. Flaxseed is the richest source of omega-3 fatty acids available to horses, in fact, it contains some 40 to 60% omega-3 fatty acids and 14% omega-6 fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for health and help support skin and coat condition. The right ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 is important, as they play an important role in inflammatory reactions. Omega-3 has an anti-inflammatory effect and omega-6 promotes inflammation. Both are needed, but the ratio should be about 1.5:1 to 3:1. Feeds high in grains tend to be high in omega-6 and relatively low in omega-3. HorseAdds Balance is 100% grain-free and contains as much as 10% flaxseed, making it a better ratio to suit horses as a grain-based feed or other grain-free feeds without high flaxseed content.
Sunflower seed meal is formed after the extraction of oil from protein-rich sunflower seeds. It is a good source of amino acids, especially lysine and methionine, both of which are important for proper protein synthesis in the body.
Soybean meal is an important source of protein, containing about 40 to 50% crude protein. It is one of the best sources of essential amino acids in horse feed which has a good amino acid profile to promote growth and muscle development. Soy is especially high in lysine, the most important limiting amino acid that the horse needs to get through nutrition. It is a good source of fiber and is low in starch and sugar.
Peas are high in protein, contain B vitamins, Vitamin C and Vitamin K. In addition, peas contain carotenoids and flavonoids. These nutrients have cell protective properties. As a result, it has antioxidant properties. Because peas are high in fiber, it stimulates digestion.
"Soy is a good source of fiber and high-quality protein. It is very low in starch and sugar"

Starchy feeds can lead to major changes in the horse's intestinal flora and thus their ability to digest nutrients. Starch is digested by horses in the small intestine by the enzyme amylase. However, the horse can only make a limited amount of amylase and therefore can only break down a limited amount of starch. A horse cannot digest more than 2 to 4 grams of starch per kg of body weight per meal. Excess starch in the diet flows through to the large intestine. However, in the colon, starch is no longer digested and this can lead to problems.
Starch entering the colon is used by starch-digesting bacteria to produce lactic acid. The addition of lactic acid in the colon results in a lowering of pH. Many of the beneficial, fiber-digesting bacteria cannot tolerate the more acidic conditions, so they die and release toxins into the colon. The presence of these toxins can result in a variety of health problems. Therefore, HorseAdds Balance is carefully formulated from raw materials that are very low in starch.
HorseAdds Balance can be fed to any horse from recreational to heavy labor. It contains the right amount of vitamins, minerals and trace elements for every horse, as long as given in the dosage appropriate for the horse.
