Description
The trace element copper has come under increasing pressure in recent years in the soil and thus in the forage we provide to our horses. On the other hand, the iron content has only increased, and is therefore in most cases higher than what your horse needs per day. An excess that affects copper absorption. With HorseAdds SIS Copper you can add copper to your basic ration exactly as needed.
What does copper do for your horse?
The largest copper supply in the body is found in the liver, joints, muscles and skin. Copper plays a role in bone and cartilage growth, as copper provides synthesis of proteins needed for tendons and cartilage. In addition, Copper is needed in the building of red blood cells, as it converts iron into hemoglobin. Copper also plays a role in hair pigmentation and supports connective tissue. Connective tissue is found throughout the body and also in the skin. Connective tissue is important for keeping the skin firm and supple.
Preventing excess
Horses, unlike sheep for example, are not very susceptible to copper intoxication and can tolerate copper levels of up to 791 mg/kg DS copper in their diets (Smith et al., 1975). However, excess is not recommended at any time, feed HorseAdds SIS Copper only when there is a deficiency in the ration.
