Natural Vitamin E for Horses
Fresh grass is the richest in natural vitamin E for horses, but hay or haylage, on the other hand, contains little or even no vitamin E left. Because horses have less or no access to fresh grass in the winter, it is especially important to supplement vitamin E then. Concentrates and supplements are sources of vitamin E supplementation, but concentrates do not always contain the proper amount of vitamin E that the horse needs. HorseAdds Natural E contains high doses of natural vitamin E, ten grams of which will provide 2400 I.E. per day.
Vitamin E plays an important role in various body processes and your horse's needs are higher during physical exertion, growth and gestation, among others. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant, which has the immediate disadvantage that this vitamin is highly subject to decrease in hay and haylage. Vitamin E protects cells from oxidative stress. Our HorseAdds Natural E consists of natural vitamin E combined with MSM; no selenium is added on purpose. If you are seeking supplementation of this trace mineral, please see our HorseAdds SIS Selenium or email us for options such as a custom supplement: HorseAdds Custom Made.
How much vitamin E does a horse need?
The basic vitamin E requirements of a horse (600 kg) are 600 I.E. per day, according to the Central Animal Feed Bureau (CVB) and the U.S. National Research Council (NRC). With physical exertion, 360-1200 I.E. per day is added, depending on the intensity of your training. The requirement also increases with gestation, lactation and growth. At gestation it is 360 I.E. per day, at lactation 600 I.E. and at growth 100 to 400 I.E. depending on age. If you feed flaxseed oil or another unsaturated oil, keep in mind that this too increases the need for Vitamin E. An excess of Vitamin E does not occur easily.
