Natural escape behavior
It is logically explained that horses have tension; they are herd animals and escape animals. It is a natural instinct to react and flee in stressful situations. We train our horses to stay calm in these situations, however, not every horse is the same and one horse suffers more than the other. To support your horse in stressful situations, you can feed Friesian Gold Easy. This supplement contains ingredients that help your horse relax.
Magnesium has a function in muscle relaxation and nervous system function. In addition to magnesium, L-tryptophan also plays an important role in mood. This essential amino acid, stimulates the production of serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter important for relaxation. In addition, a healthy gut flora is also important. Tension affects intestinal flora and vice versa the same. Therefore, Friesian Gold contains Easy yeast and B vitamins, for a balanced intestinal flora.
Lithothamne in horses
Friesian Gold also contains Lithothamne, calcified red marine algae. Lithothamne is a calcium- and magnesium-rich natural mineral. There is considerable anecdotal evidence suggesting that horses are less stress sensitive and easier to train when fed lithothamne. This was examined in a study by Nielsen et al. (s.j.). In this study, lithothamne was tested for horses' reactivity to stress situations. Two tests were conducted: a Moving Object Reactivity Test (MORT) in which a large bag is quickly lifted off the floor in front of the horse and a Handling Reactivity Test (HRT). This involved placing the horse in an enclosed space. The horses' reaction was scored in the process. The results showed that lithothamne can indeed help calm horses and reduce reactivity to unexpected stimuli.
